Our Story

How we ended up doing this

We build and repair decks, porches, and railings for homeowners in and around Olive Branch. Most of us got into this trade doing framing and rough carpentry, and decks turned into the work we kept coming back to because you can actually see the whole job from the ground up.

If you called us, there's a good chance a board is soft, a post is wobbling, or the stairs don't feel right under your foot anymore. We pull the decking back far enough to see the joists and ledger before we quote anything, because a repair estimate based on what you can see from the yard is usually wrong. Five years from now, the part of the job that matters is the flashing and the fasteners nobody ever looks at again.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed & Insured

We carry general liability insurance on every deck project, not just the big ones. Ask for a certificate before you sign anything, we don't mind.

Permits & Code Compliance

We handle the permit application and schedule the footing inspection before decking goes down. Skipping that step is how homeowners end up with a deck that can't be insured or sold later.

Job Site Cleanup

We sweep for stray screws and nails at the end of every work day, not just the last one. A bare foot finding a deck screw in the grass is the kind of callback we'd rather avoid.

Written Estimates

Every estimate lists the lumber or composite brand, fastener type, and footing depth we're pricing, not just a lump sum. That way you know what you're comparing if you get a second quote.

On-Time Scheduling

Concrete footings take a few days to cure before framing continues, and we build that into the schedule upfront rather than surprising you mid-job. Rain delays happen, but we call ahead instead of just not showing up.

Material Options

We'll walk you through the upfront cost and long-term upkeep of wood versus composite decking before you decide. Most homeowners haven't priced out ten years of staining against one composite install.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about how we work and who's actually swinging the hammer.

How long have you been building decks?
Deck building experience matters most for judging span tables correctly and spotting a ledger board that's about to fail, skills that come from years of framing work rather than a manual. Asking to see examples of completed deck projects is a better measure of skill than years alone.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
Some deck builders use an in-house crew for an entire project, while others subcontract framing or finishing work to other trades, particularly on larger jobs involving roofing or electrical. Asking whether the same crew handles the whole project from footings to final decking affects both quality and scheduling.
Can I see examples of decks you've built?
Photos of completed deck projects, ideally including a few in progress showing the framing and footings, give a clearer sense of build quality than finished photos alone. Any deck builder worth hiring should be able to show examples of similar projects, whether composite, multi-level, or custom railing.
Why hire a smaller deck builder instead of a large remodeling company?
A smaller, trade-focused deck builder usually has the owner or a lead carpenter on site for most of a project, rather than a project manager overseeing subcontracted crews. That direct involvement often means faster decisions when something unexpected comes up mid-build.
Where is this deck building business based?
Heritage Deck Solutions is based in Olive Branch, MS, and serves surrounding DeSoto County communities within roughly a 50-mile radius. Confirming a specific address falls within that service radius is worth doing before requesting a quote.
How far out are deck projects currently booking?
Deck builder availability shifts seasonally, with spring and early summer bookings filling up faster than fall and winter slots. Requesting a quote early, even months before an ideal start date, usually secures a better spot in the schedule.
Do you clean up the job site after finishing a deck?
Job site cleanup after deck construction includes hauling off old decking material, scrap lumber, and packaging from composite boards or hardware. A thorough deck builder sweeps nail debris from the lawn, since a stray screw in bare feet is the kind of problem nobody wants after a new deck is finished.
What happens if something gets damaged during construction?
Licensed and insured deck builders carry liability coverage that handles accidental damage to siding, landscaping, or other property during construction. Proof of insurance should be confirmed before work starts, since that's the only way to know damage would actually be covered.
Will you finish a deck another contractor started?
Taking over a partially built deck depends on whether the existing footings and framing meet code, which usually requires pulling up some decking to inspect what's underneath before giving a quote. Some unfinished decks are salvageable from the framing stage, while others need the frame rebuilt before continuing.
How can I tell if deck work is being done correctly?
A properly built deck has footings poured below the frost line, a ledger board bolted and flashed rather than just nailed, and joist spacing matched to the decking material being used. Requesting a copy of the permit and the inspection sign-off is the most reliable way to confirm the structural work meets code.
